The crypto market remained under heavy pressure in the early Feb. 5 session, with total market capitalization falling 6.6% to $2.48 trillion as of 06:00 ET, extending losses from the prior afternoon’s 3.7% decline. Selling was broad-based and intensified across major Layer-1 assets, pointing to continued risk reduction rather than isolated weakness. Bitcoin dropped to $71,197, down 6.5% on the day and nearly 19% over the past week, while Ethereum slid to $2,119, deepening its seven-day drawdown to 28%. BNB, Solana, Cardano, Avalanche, and Polkadot all recorded mid-to-high single-digit declines, reinforcing the market’s defensive posture as liquidity thinned and volatility rose.

Losses were especially pronounced among recent leaders and large-cap altcoins. XRP fell more than 13% on the day and nearly 26% over the past week, while Zcash, OKB, LEO, and Stellar each posted steep declines. Metaverse and DeFi sectors also weakened, with Internet Computer, The Sandbox, Chiliz, Chainlink, Uniswap, and Aave all under pressure, suggesting limited sector rotation and a lack of safe havens within crypto. A small pocket of relative strength persisted in select names such as MYX Finance and Hyperliquid, which held modest gains despite the broader selloff, but these moves were insufficient to offset the overall negative tone. Taken together, market action indicates that Tuesday’s late-session stabilization failed to attract sustained buying, leaving sentiment fragile and markets vulnerable as participants prioritize capital preservation.
